About us

At KVC Health Systems, our 2,400 caring team members work every day to strengthen families, prevent child abuse and neglect, and help both children and adults achieve mental wellness. We all need connection! And at KVC, our employees are our greatest asset and strength, helping the people we serve experience the power of connection to themselves, their family and friends, and to professionals who can help them thrive. We're working toward a bold vision: a world in which every person is SAFE and CONNECTED to a strong family and a healthy community. No more child abuse and neglect. No more untreated mental illness or addiction. Parents no longer pass down the cycles of violence, substance use or trauma that they experienced as children. Instead, families have the skills and supportive connections they need to thrive. Every individual has unlimited possibilities and can reach their full potential. This is why the KVC team comes to work every day, providing family strengthening services, mental and behavioral healthcare, foster care, adoption and inpatient children’s mental health treatment. People are facing serious challenges, and community needs are greater than ever. Will you join us? Since 1970, KVC has grown from a single home for at-risk children to a national organization serving over 80,000 children and families each year in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Kentucky and West Virginia. KVC also provides training and consultation around the world. We're a family of private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations committed to enriching and enhancing the lives of children and families. Meet Amanda Maynard, Family Care Coordinator for KVC Kentucky. She is strengthening families through empathy by embodying one of KVC's golden rules: "What would you want for your child?" "In my position as a Family Care Coordinator, I meet families for the first time knowing almost nothing about them. I get their paperwork and a summary of what has happened and why they are being referred. Sometimes those few sentences are hard to read, and admittedly can be hard not to judge. But I have learned that families are more than what is written on paper; being able to go into a home and give people an opportunity to tell their story without judgment and offer them help regardless is what empathy is all about. One story of a parent with children comes to mind. I found myself digging deep to find motivation to continue services. The major motivator was the situation, and I knew they needed help. I put my feelings aside and placed myself into their shoes. What if it was me? What if I got myself into a situation where I needed someone to show me grace and understanding? What if I was a single parent with very limited income, very little support, and my children were struggling? I didn't want to be another person who let them down. It wasn't until I started to get to know the family and learn more about their story that I was able to empathize and really feel what they were going through. I found empathy when I put aside the challenges I was having with the parent and saw how much I wanted to see them succeed. I empathize the most when it comes to the children. They cannot control the situations they’ve been put in. I do my best every day to empathize with my clients because I whole heartedly want to see them succeed." On behalf of the KVC Health Systems board and leadership team, our President & CEO Jason Hooper would like to thank and congratulate Paul Kempinski, President & CEO of Children's Mercy Kansas City, on his announced retirement and decades-long contribution to health and well-being. KVC and Children’s Mercy are joint venture partners in creating a new $53 million, 72-bed mental wellness campus and inpatient hospital opening later this year to provide life-saving care. Jason said, “We all aspire to be good people and good partners, but Paul is truly one of the most collaborative, kind, and intelligent leaders I know. He approaches complex challenges as a learner and then drives toward world-class quality in everything from the patient experience to outcomes. Paul has a deep understanding of why we must urgently expand access to quality mental health treatment in the Kansas City region and nationwide, based on our shared conviction that families should never have to wait for help when their child is in crisis. Above all this, Paul has become a good friend, and we look forward to continued friendship with him and a long-term partnership with Children’s Mercy. Best wishes to you, Paul.” You can read more about our partnership at https://lnkd.in/g-YC_pmQ #kansascity #mentalhealth #childrensmentalhealth #kc #partnership #nonprofit

It’s National Foster Care Month. Foster care is a safe place that gives a child and his or her birth family an opportunity to resolve conflicts or disruptions and learn healthy skills so the child can safely return home. Many birth families need help in learning effective parenting skills, overcoming substance use or learning healthy ways to cope with trauma they themselves have experienced. KVC offers foster care services in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and West Virginia. Get more information about foster care and becoming a foster parent https://bit.ly/44okqIX
