Event Description: For the past few decades, performance management has been pursued by many local governments as a technical managerial tool. However, to deal with the challenge of “doing more with less” or “doing less with less,” officials need to understand not only the “input-output-outcome” relationship, but also what citizens truly value and how they expect the government to perform. This presentation discusses the results of a series of research that looks at how citizens perceive government performance and how government officials could engage them more effectively in budget prioritization and performance management.
