Get Energized! An Intro to Wellness for the Cancer Survivor

By attending “Get Energized! An Intro to Wellness for the Cancer Survivor,” you’ll learn how to address cancer-related fatigue and have better energy in your daily life.

Gain tips and tools to get stronger, feel better (both physically and emotionally) and reduce your overall risk for cancer recurrence and other diseases. This free, community wellness program will be from 1-2:15 p.m., Nov. 8, at Kansas City Cancer Center-East, 4881 NE Goodview Circle in Lee’s Summit.

Women and Heart Disease

Join The University of Kansas Hospital’s Ashley Simmons, MD, who will lead a discussion on the importance of obstetrics/gynecology and cardiology working together on Nov. 9.

This free Be Well!  program, “Women and Heart Disease,” will be from  noon-1 p.m., Nov. 9, in the Atrium Conference Room at The University of Kansas Hospital’s Westwood Campus (Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Care Pavilion), 2330 Shawnee Mission Parkway, in Westwood, Kan.

Lung Cancer Treatment Updates

The latest treatment options for lung cancer will be discussed in an upcoming Be Well! program from The University of Kansas Hospital.

The hospital’s Chao Huang, MD, will lead this free program from noon-1 p.m., Nov. 11, in the Atrium Conference Room at The University of Kansas Hospital’s Westwood Campus (Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Care Pavilion), 2330 Shawnee Mission Parkway, in Westwood, Kan.

Jin Shin Jyutsu

An introduction to the ancient art of “Jin Shin Jyutsu” will be free and open to the public on Nov. 14.

The class is designed to help persons dealing with cancer. Learn energy points that have been shown to be helpful in reducing the side effects of chemotherapy, balancing emotions, reducing recovery time after surgery and helping with pain and symptom management.

The wellness program will be from 1-2 p.m., Nov. 14, at Kansas City Cancer Center-Southwest, 12200 W. 110th St., in Overland Park. It is offered by Kansas City Cancer Center in partnership with Turning Point: The Center for Hope and Healing.

The Seven Levels of Healing

Gain insight into navigating the cancer journey in “The Seven Levels of Healing."

The program is designed to guide anyone touched by cancer to greater wholeness and healing, providing direction and hope at every step along the way.

Created by nationally known oncologist and author Jeremy Geffen, MD, the program will be facilitated by Kansas City Cancer Center registered  nurses Betsy Bennett of the Liberty location; Myra Godsy of the Southwest and Shawnee Mission medical offices; and Kim Sherman, a float nurse among the various clinics.

The seven-session program is free and open to the public. It is offered at the South Kansas City Cancer Center location, 1000 E. 101st Terrace, in Kansas City. Participants may select one of two mandatory introduction sessions—6:30-8:30 p.m., Nov. 14, or 6:30-8:30 p.m., Dec. 12--to attend. The series then will begin on Thursday, Jan. 5, and will continue each Thursday through Feb. 16.

Parent College: Bullying and Peer Pressure in Adolescence

A physician from The University of Kansas Hospital will discuss how to help children through tough situations in the November Parent College program, “Bullying and Peer Pressure in Adolescence.”

This open-to-the-public program will be from 5:30-7 p.m., Nov. 22, in the Pediatrics Conference Room at The University of Kansas Hospital’s Pediatric Urgent Care, 7301 Mission Road, Suite 350, in Prairie Village.

The hospital’s Loretta Nelson, MD, board certified in both adolescent medicine and pediatric medicine, will lead the program. There is no charge, but space is limited.
