Rep. Yoder to Host Town Hall Forum to Focus on Federal Funding for Critical Research

Overland Park, KS – Congressman Kevin Yoder is holding a Town Hall Forum on Tuesday, August 19th at the KU Edwards campus for a discussion on the importance of critical federal funding for life-saving research. The forum is at Regnier Hall Auditorium and the event will be open to the public.

Constituents are encouraged to attend and engage in a conversation about the role and value of federal biomedical and scientific research, as well as the impact of this research on the local economy and Kansans fighting life-altering disease and disability. Congressman Yoder will serve as moderator of this forum.

Dr. Christopher Austin, M.D., Director, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), will travel to the 3rd District to participate in a public forum highlighting the role of the NIH and the impact NIH research efforts have in Kansas. Other panel stakeholders participating in the inaugural event include: Jeffrey Joyce, Ph.D., Vice President for Research at KCUMB; Steve O’Connor, CEO of ImpeDx Diagnostics, Inc.; Douglas A. Girod, M.D., Executive Vice Chancellor of the University of Kansas Medical Center; Scott Weir, PharmD, Ph.D., Director of the Institute for Advancing Medical Innovation for the University of Kansas; and Leesa Gabel, Cancer Survivor and Regional Leader for the LIVESTRONG Foundation.

“I’m excited to welcome Dr. Austin to the 3rd District of Kansas. I am a strong supporter of biomedical research, and believe the NIH research taking place at the University of Kansas and by local entrepreneurs is having a positive impact on the health and life of Kansans across the state,” stated Congressman Kevin Yoder. “I hope this forum will allow everyone in the community to fully understand the value of the NIH and the importance of continued medical research in our efforts to improve and save lives.”
