Olathe Public Schools breaks ground on fifth high school

The ground was officially broke at the site of the Olathe Public School’s fifth high school yesterday morning! Olathe Chamber members and Ambassadors joined Mayor Michael Copeland, Superintendent Dr. Marlin Berry and the President of the Board of Education, LeEtta Felter, for the ground breaking ceremony at the southeast corner of Santa Fe and Hedge Lane.

The high school is being designed and constructed for 2,000 students and will open for the 2017-18 school year. Spanning 375,000 square feet, the three-story school focuses on the use of technology, open, modular learning spaces, efficiency and collaboration among students. A centrally located learning commons will provide student gathering and education collaboration spaces that connect to the entire building. The school is designed with four wings, or communities, where students will attend classes. The high school will also include a media center, performing arts center, gymnasiums and practice fields for athletics.

McCownGordon Construction is the construction manager of the project.
