Olathe Chamber to Present "Mediating Across the Generations," a luncheon for HR and business professionals

OLATHE, Kan.—The Olathe Chamber of Commerce is pleased to present a luncheon for human resources and business professionals, “Mediating Across the Generations,” with guest speaker Loretta Summers, SPHR, on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Kansas State University Olathe, 22201 W. Innovation Drive. This event is open to the public and has met the HR Certification Institute’s criteria to be pre-approved for one hour of general recertification credit.

The presentation will feature a discussion lead by Loretta Summers, president of The Summers Advisory Group, Inc., a firm specializing in human resources training, consulting and mediation. Summers is also an adjunct professor at Johnson County Community College and has more than 30 years of experience in the areas of human resources management, leadership and management development, conflict management and diversity, including a previous position as assistant vice president of HR at the Sprint Corporation.

The focus of this discussion will be to teach managers how to mediate in light of the differences across the generations. The presentation will explore how the various generations respond differently to conflict and will provide a conceptual understanding of managerial mediation, including how to curtail costs associated with workplace conflict.

Open to the public, the event will include a presentation, question-and-answer period, networking opportunities and lunch. The cost is $25 a person for members; $35 for non-members. Registration is being accepted at olathe.org until Friday, Nov. 1. For additional information, contact Susan Wallace, swallace@olathe.org or (913) 764-1050.

This workshop is possible thanks to our sponsors, Johnson County Community College, Kansas State University – Olathe, Bank of Blue Valley, Farmers Insurance, the Society for Human Resource Management of Johnson County and Southwestern College.
