Comcast launches XFINITY WiFi in Kansas City area

Kansas City, MO – Oct. 16, 2013 – Comcast today announced that its XFINITY WiFi hotspot service is now available in the Kansas City metro area.  For no additional charge to Xfinity Internet customers, XFINITY WiFi provides fast wireless Internet access in places where Kansas City area customers spend time working, commuting, shopping, dining and socializing – including parks, shopping districts, schools, small businesses and more.

As part of its rollout, Comcast has installed and activated more than 210 XFINITY WiFi hotspots throughout metro Kansas City, including major public venues like the Independence Events Center, businesses such as Universal, and local gathering spots like Doughboy’s Donutville in Raytown, with plans to add more locations on an ongoing basis.

The additional hot spots help create a seamless internet user experience in Kansas City, with residents having the ability to stay connected throughout the day – from morning coffee and doughnuts to taking in a game at the Independence Events Center. The strategically-placed hot spots are part of an even larger market-wide WiFi footprint, as Comcast customers can also use hundreds of existing Time Warner Cable hot spots in the area.

Both companies are part of the nationwide Cable WiFi Alliance, featuring more than 300,000 hotspots from coast-to-coast.  Time Warner Cable Internet customers can also take advantage of these new XFINITY WiFi locations in the Kansas City area.

To access these hotspots, Xfinity Internet customers should search for “xfinitywifi” or “CableWiFi” on the list of available WiFi networks on their computers and mobile devices and follow the prompts to begin their WiFi sessions. They can also use the Xfinity WiFi app, available for iOS and Android devices, to locate XFINITY WiFi hotspots nationwide.

“WiFi is a key component of our efforts to deliver Xfinity Internet customers the fastest and most reliable Internet connection, both inside and outside of the home,” said Tom Nagel, Senior Vice President of Business Development, Comcast Cable. “With the ubiquity of wireless technology in consumer devices, our customers have the benefit of being able to access the largest WiFi network in the U.S. to connect them to family, friends and the information they need.”  In addition to the new outdoor and business-based WiFi hotspots, Comcast will soon launch in-home XFINITY WiFi hotspots in the Kansas City area as well.

Nagel leads the deployment and expansion of XFINITY WiFi, which encompasses the creation of the Cable WiFi Consortium.  During his visit to Kansas City on October 16, Nagel will brief the business community on Comcast investments in the market, and will also be available for media inquiries and interviews.

In addition to XFINITY WiFi access, Comcast also offers a wide range of residential and commercial broadband Internet products and service tiers, which include a number of value-added benefits at no additional cost.  More information is available by calling 1-800-XFINITY or visiting www.xfinity.com/WiFi.  Business customers will find more details at www.comcastbusiness.com
