National Diaper Need Awareness Week is a chance for diaper banks across the country to educate the community about the reality of diaper need. Low income families should not have to choose between paying bills or buying diapers. When families can't afford diapers, it means babies sit in soiled diapers for long periods of time, and babies are the ones who suffer. Diaper banks just need support from the community to help these families.
On July 29th, a new study in the Journal Pediatrics proved that diaper need has an impact on the health and well being of both babies and parents. Almost 30-percent of women surveyed reported they did not always have enough diapers to change their babies, and the moms said this caused increased stress and even depression.
Governors and Mayors all across the country are signing proclamations this week recognizing Diaper Need Awareness Week. Locally, HappyBottoms is pleased to say we have received proclamations from many city leaders: Mayor Sly James, Kansas City, MO; Mayor Mark Holland, KCK/Unified Government of Wyandotte County, KS; Mayor Carl Gerlach, Overland Park, KS; Johnson County Board of County Commissioners; Mayor Laura McConwell, Mission, KS; and Mayor Joel Marquadt, Roeland Park, KS.
