JCCC named by Chronicle of Higher Education as a great college to work for

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College is again one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a survey conducted by The Chronicle of Higher Education.

JCCC was recognized in the category of facilities, workspaces and security. The college was also recognized as a great college to work for in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The results, released this week by The Chronicle, are based on a survey of more than 44,680 employees at 300 colleges and universities.

In all, only 97 institutions received “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium and large institutions, with JCCC included among the large institutions with 10,000 or more students.

“We appreciate that our faculty and staff see the college as a great place to work,” said Joe Sopcich, JCCC president. “That helps our students see JCCC as a great place to learn.”

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies and practices from each institution and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was employee feedback.

To administer the survey and analyze the results, the Chronicle worked with Modern Think LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs nationwide.
