Melanoma Monday

 A skin cancer screening could save your life. And on May 6, the screening is being offered at no charge to those who register for “Melanoma Monday."

Skin cancer—including melanoma, the deadliest form—is highly treatable when detected early.
Melanoma Monday, designed to raise awareness about melanoma and other types of skin cancer, will be from 3-5 p.m., May 6, on the fourth floor (Dermatology) of the medical office building adjacent to The University of Kansas Hospital, 3901 Rainbow Blvd., Kansas City, Kan. There is no charge for parking.

Registration is required for Melanoma Monday, a nationwide program designated by the American Academy of Dermatology. How Do I Look in These Genes?

Wear your favorite jeans to this fun ladies’ night out, where you’ll learn how genetics plays a role in the risk for certain types of cancer. Larry Geier, MD, will lead “How Do I Look in These Genes?”
Also during the program, wardrobe stylist Jennifer Niehouse will present fashion tips. The evening will wrap up with a replenishing meditation and relaxation series.

This free event will be from 6-7 p.m., May 21, at The University of Kansas Cancer Center-South, 1000 E. 101st Terrace, Kansas City, Mo. The South location is one of nine community centers supporting The University of Kansas Cancer Center.

Cancer Center Kitchen Therapy

 Ready to cook up some comfort? Find out how in a class designed just for cancer patients, families and caregivers!
 “Cancer Center Kitchen Therapy,” offered by The University of Kansas Cancer Center, will include cooking demonstrations with recipes and tips for making food appealing and enhancing appetites.

The free Be Well! program will be from noon-1 p.m., June 20, at The University of Kansas Clinical Research Center in the Fairway Office Park, 4350 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Fairway, Kan. Other kitchen therapy classes are planned for the third Thursday of each month.

Many Faces of Breast Cancer

 Learn about nutrition, exercise, sexual health and day-to-day management of metastatic breast cancer in an upcoming, free program from The University of Kansas Cancer Center.

 A panel will discuss the “Many Faces of Breast Cancer” from 5:30-7 p.m., Aug. 22, at The University of Kansas Clinical Research Center in the Fairway Office Park, 4350 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Fairway, Kan.
