Event Description: One of the most popular, Emmy-award winning comedians of his time, Red Skelton hosted a variety show on tv from 1951-1971. His family-friendly, hilarious and touching, character sketches are brought to life these days by Brian Hoffman, who stars in Las Vegas' “Remembering Red – a Tribute to Red Skelton”, which is being brought to Olathe by local art collector Richard Kauffman. Skelton was also an artist, and Kauffman's collection contains at least 40 paintings and a variety of memorabilia. “I believe I have one of the largest private collections in the country,” said Kauffman. “One of my favorite pieces is a self-portrait of Red, which he painted at age 80. When I was a kid, we always watched Red's show on tv. It was a real thrill when I got to meet him, and I was fortunate to be invited to his 80th birthday party in Las Vegas! After he passed away in 1997, I ran into his wife in Branson and showed her photos of my collection and she later sent me one of his personal watches. Red was just an everyday person, and knew how to keep his audience laughing all the time.” Two shows will be offered on April 26 at the Oregon Trail Theater, 1800 W. Dennis, Olathe.
