MNU Announces MSN Program for BSN Nurses

Olathe, Kan. – The Master of Science in Nursing program at MNU offers a new choice for BSN-prepared nurses seeking to enhance their leadership skills and advance their careers. The MSN program offers two distinct tracks, in Health Care Administration and in Nursing Education. The Health Care Administration track prepares nurse leaders to function successfully in administrative positions ranging from nursing manager to CEO within health care organizations. The Nursing Education track prepares nurse leaders to excel as nurse educators in health care facilities or as faculty members in schools of nursing.

The course schedule is based on MNU’s adult education model with courses taught in seven-week modules. Students may start the program with any module and attend class just one day a week. In this manner students are able to complete the master’s degree in one year. Karen Wiegman, PhD, RN, chair of the department of graduate studies in nursing, says the program has been popular with prospective students prior to its official announcement and already has students enrolled for the first class in January 2010.

Requirements for admission to the program include:

  • BSN from an accredited university.
  • GPA of 3.0. (some exceptions apply)
  • Successful completion of undergraduate health assessment, research and statistics course (available on site at MNU).
  • An active, valid RN license.

MidAmerica Nazarene University is a private, liberal arts university offering more than 40 undergraduate degrees and adult degree completion, as well as five professional graduate degrees in business, education, and counseling. MNU is located on a 105-acre campus in Olathe, Kan., and recently opened a location in Liberty, Mo., for some of its adult and graduate courses. The nursing program began at MNU in 1981 and includes traditional BSN, accelerated BSN and RN to BSN programs.
