The Greater Kansas City Chapter of the of the American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) presented Sheriff Frank Denning with the Clarence M. Kelley Award on October 06, 2009, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission's 60th annual luncheon. The award, named after former Federal Bureau of Investigation Director and Former Kansas City,
Missouri Chief of Police Clarence Kelley - is a prestigious award presented each year to a criminal justice executive who is an excellent administrator, proactive in their approach, and dedicated to improving the criminal justice system.
Sheriff Denning said, “It is a true honor to be in the company of those before me who have received this award.”
His accomplishments leading up to this award include his impeccable integrity and professionalism, the initiating of a Crime Scene Unit, seeking crime lab accreditation, and creating an internet crimes unit who has arrested over 75 individuals with a 100 percent conviction rate. He is also the chair of the Re-entry, 2nd Chance program in
Johnson
County
, taking the lead in reducing crime and recidivism.
Sheriff Denning has have been serving the law enforcement community for 30 years. He joined the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in 1978 as a Deputy serving in the
Adult
Detention
Center
. His assignments included patrol, detective and narcotics before being promoted to sergeant and eventually lieutenant.
In 1996, he was appointed Chief of Police with the City of Roeland Park, Kansas until August 2002 when he was appointed as the Undersheriff at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. He served as Undersheriff until April 2003 and was subsequently elected Sheriff in August 2004 and re-elected in 2008.
