NBRC Building earns top energy designation |
|
|
The NBRC/AMP building in Corporate Ridge, which houses the National Board for Respiratory Care and Applied Measurement Professionals, is one of only 70 buildings in the state to be awarded an Energy Star Label. The designation is the mark of superior energy performance and identifies the building as one of the most efficient in the nation. Marge Vogt, Olathe City Councilwomen, presented the plaque to Gary Smith, NBRC’s CEO, at a recent staff meeting.
The NBRC/AMP building was designed with energy efficiency in mind and includes a mixture of energy efficient lighting fixtures and natural lighting. The building systems are controlled by an Energy Management System, a direct digital control system that can be accessed through the Internet for off-site monitoring.
With the support of senior management, NBRC continues to improve its energy efficiency in several ways. Every employee is involved in the energy program through a five-year agreement, signed in 2008 with Kansas City Power & Light for its MPower Program. NBRC initiated a company-wide recycling program in 2008, which, in addition to paper, plastic, and aluminum, also includes e-waste. In addition, the
staff is rewarded for their participation in a Transportation Program.
NBRC continues to reach out to employees in other ways to spread the word that energy efficiency is good for the bottom line as well as the environment.
