GBA’s Carpenter Receives CPESC Professional Certification |
|
|
Lenexa, KS – Doug Carpenter, an environmental scientist with GBA’s Water Environment Group, has received professional certification as a CPESC (Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control). Carpenter, who joined GBA in 2004, is responsible for sediment and erosion control issues associated with a wide range of GBA projects, from new development to rehabilitation of storm and sanitary sewer systems. GBA
is a leading engineering and architectural firm headquartered here.
CPESC professionals must pass a written exam designed to determine proficiency in the principles, practices, and legislation of erosion and sediment control.Applicants must also earn a qualifying BS degree with three years of professional experience in the soil erosion and sediment control profession, or complete seven years or more of professional-level experience.
This is especially important today, as Federal environmental regulations such as the EPA’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II regulations require erosion and sediment control measures for all construction projects disturbing one acre or more. GBA can assist by navigating the permitting process, designing erosion and sediment control and stormwater management
plans that comply with regulations, and helping ensure that these plans are effectively implemented.
Carpenter holds a BA degree in geology from the University of Kansas, including coursework in sedimentology, structural geology, igneous and metamorphic petrology, mineralology, and field mapping. He lives in Overland Park, Kan.
GBA, which was founded in 1969, is a full-service engineering and architectural firm with a staff of 230 located in headquarters in Lenexa and in offices in St. Louis, O’Fallon, and Kansas City in Missouri, and in Lisle, Ill.
