In the next 1½ years, a six-story Hilton Garden Inn will dominate the landscape on the east side of I-35 and 119th Street—an important northern gateway to Olathe. The hotel will be built at
12080 S. Strang Line Rd.
, the former site of the Olathe Kansas Machine Shed Restaurant, which is scheduled for demolition this fall.
Heart of America Group will build and operate the new hotel. The company also owns the Comfort Suites hotel that is located next door to this project.
Designed for LEED certification with environmentally-friendly features, the 77,000-sq.-ft. hotel will have 107 rooms. The award-winning Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse will occupy 5,500 sq. ft. in the hotel and seat 110 customers. It will be the seventh location for the restaurant brand developed by Heart of America Group.
Hotel amenities, in addition to the restaurant, will include a two-story lobby atrium, 3,500 sq. ft. of meeting space, and expanded pool and exercise facility. More than 100 people will be employed in the hotel and restaurant.
Tim McKee
, the Olathe Chamber’s executive vice president of Economic Development, has been working with Heart of America Group over the past year to bring another one of the company’s properties to
Olathe
. McKee helped the company define the niche market in
Olathe
and worked as a liaison between Heart of America Group and the City of
Olathe
.
“This Hilton Garden Inn will be a business-class, full-service hotel, that will define the
Olathe
skyline for years to come,” said Damen Trebilcock, vice president of Heart of America’s real estate development. “The customers we’re targeting for this product are currently being served outside of the
Olathe
area. We are excited to be providing the product that will keep these customers in the
Olathe
community.”
